I brought back two pots and topsoil from Thanksgiving with the 'rents.
I planted two scallions in one of the pots. They're just scallions bought from the store, with the greens cut off.
I measured them yesterday. 4.5 cm and 5 cm.
Today? One of them is still 4.5 cm...
But the other one is nearly 6 cm!
They're so cute! I'm going to be sad when I eat them.

Sounds very intruiging. Container gardening is something I've been pondering over for quite some time... but never quite gotten around to.

According to a friend of mine, scallions that are fresh, still have a bit of root left, and have not been refrigerated can be planted with quite a high success rate (like, 70%). And you can cut and recut the greens, just like you said. How snazzy is that?!
BTW, my baby trooper is now 7.3 cm! But I think the other one is dead. Oh well.
I think I'm going to do basil and cilantro next. *paints thumb green*
fern: Looks like a lovely flower. My stepmother keeps a lot of plants, and it really makes the house feel fresh and homey.
But being more of a practical gal, I think I'm only going to plant stuff that I can EAT. What I would do for an avocado tree...
best,
