Fuel efficiency this week

June 21st, 2014 at 03:12 am

Snapped a photo of my mpg gauge after this week's driving --

This is one of my best figures yet. Sometimes I feel like I over-purchased on my car, but fuel efficiency was my single most important criteria, and I've gotta say -- I'm pretty pleased that I can pull off gas mileages that are practically on par with hybrids.

Not only does it save on gas, but it also saves the planet!

Ding ding ding! It's a 2012 Honda Civic. Smile
Over the past 1-1/2 years, my average has been 44 mpg, with it ranging between 40 in the winter and 49 in the summer. I do drive mostly highways, though. A hybrid would likely do better in local or city driving.

well, i have a 2013 Honda Civic HF. It's rated 41 highway/35 or 36 city. About 3/4 of my driving is city, so I only average 34 mpg.

However, in another week or 2 i'll be doing a 3 hour highway drive down to NJ so I'm very curious to see what the mileage will be like then.

This time of year, I only need about an hour on the highway to get the trip mpg up into the 50s. With good weather (hot, clear, and preferably low pressure w/ tailwind), no traffic, and a willingness to hang in the slow lane with the grannies and Priuses, there's no reason why you can't get similar results. Smile Good luck and let me know how it goes!
